A practical approach for monitoring reinforcement corrosion in steel fiber reinforced concrete elements exposed to chloride rich environments

The use of fibers in Reinforced Concrete (RC) elements changes their cracking pattern, leading to narrower and more closely spaced cracks. In addition, the presence can improve steel-to-concrete bond behavior reducing interface damage after cracking. Cracks work like paths, for aggressive agents, reach rebar elements, initiation period corrosion process, favoring at intersection between cracks reinforcement. this context, article discusses an experimental program on tension ties mechanically cracked exposed a chloride-rich environment with purpose check eventually adequate typical electrochemical measurements, used case RC Steel Fiber (SFRC). Adjustments related degradation morphology interference steel are proposed (FRC) monitoring influence propagation. Finally, these modifications were checked validated against results obtained by SFRC beams stage.
